I love living life & I am happy

Posted on May 19th, 2009 by Mikey_Dee : A hoot and The frumious Bandersnatc Mikey_Dee
Today, I had a most unusual experience, I read the words "Mikey_Dee is dying" , and I wrote to the author on Gaia who answered " someone said you were dying, or perhaps I misunderstood" , so my status became "Mikey_Dee is living (it up & beyond his means)" which is true. I then google searched a video on "I love living" and came across this absolute gem! and I discovered that I am like the man in the video, except that I have four limbs, it's just that I have hemiplegia and the limbs on the left don't work too well,
I Love Living Life. I Am Happy.

I had a most unusual experience on Gaia today: I read the words "Mikey_Dee is dying" & when I asked the author, he responded " someone told me you were dying, or perhaps I misunderstood" So I googled "I love living" and came upon this gem of a video! And though I have all my limbs , I am like this man in many ways. So thank you author for helping me to find inspiration to accept my own handicap better ( the limbs on my left side are partially paralised and I am hemiplegique, but I love living life & I am happy

Oh my…can't watch that one without a tear in the eye!

Wow…people like this amaze me.
So inspiring.
I wonder if I could ever be so brave and positive.

It certainly puts things in perspective.
How little to whine about and how much to be thankful for!

Thank you for the inspiration Mikey!

I got a shock with that too; and then I thought how we are dying from the moment of birth…but as you did, we're here to live, so let's do that!
((((((((((((((())))))))))))

I hope that shock's worn away, Mikey.

Mike, I was so worried, and so was Dov, with whom I was chatting, when I saw that message. I'm sure no harm was intended, though sandy, just a misunderstanding.

But Mike I am so delighted that it worked out to inspire you through you finding that video.

Wonderfully inspiring video, Mikey. I met so many inspiring spirits like that when I was nursing, children, and all ages, such a privilege to work with them.

That would be a fairly trippy thing to read.  And what a video find.  Thanks for touching me with that.  My new friend, I fell in love with your intelligence, wit, warmth, and yes, joie de vivre, near immediately.  Who could be more alive than Mikey Dee? ;o)

Oh… and I found a picture of a bug's ear:

                           .

              How cute is that??

Hi Mikey, am I having a deja vu? I have the weirdest feeling I read this before and commented. I know I did. I remember now. Anyway speaking of haemiplegia. I used to teach children with disabilities to swim. One of these children was a 6 yr old girl called Kathryn and Kathryn had haemiplegia. When she first came to see me her mother was in tears and said “can you teach my daughter to swim because I have tried other teachers and they said they couldnt without even trying.” So I checked Kathryn out and asked her if she wanted to swim and she said “yesIdo” like that yesIdo. So I said yes but when I looked at her degree of haemiplegia I said “but it will take me about 6 years cause we have to loosen up some of her muscles” so her mother said “will you stick around that long?” and I went “yes I'm not going anywhere else that I can think of.” So I did. At first she couldnt walk unaided then we worked on it and I told her mum to clap and cheer when I gave the signal because the improvements were so minute but I could see them cause I taught her every second day and gradually so could Kathryn.

One day another girl I taught who also had haemiplegia and who was called Catherine came to swimming crying and when asked why, said she had been bullied at school for limping. Kathryn said quietly to me as we kicked up and down the pool “Jenny I think I should say a little prayer for Catherine.” and we both did and when we got to the end Catherine had stopped crying so we knew the prayer worked. Then one day the fires came to Canberra and Kathryns house was directly in line of the fire. They evacuated but before going Kathryn said she made her father stay long enough for her to say a little prayer for her house. When they went back 50 houses immediately around them had burnt to the ground and at their house the fire had burned everything up to the walls of the house then swung around and went the other way and the house was spared. She told me her prayer worked.

When she had almost learned to swim her father saw her swimming for the first time and because of the haemiplegia she was not swimming quite as gracefully as an Olympic swimmer might and her father dived in fully clothed in an Armani suit and Italian leather shoes to rescue her thinking she was drowning. When he pulled her out she stood up straight and said in a haughty voice. “Daddy, dont you ever embarrass me like that again.” She learned to swim in 6 years and at age 17 she went in the cross country run at school and came equal last with her girlfriend, laughing all the way.

Didnt mean to steal your blog but once I started I didnt feel I could do Kathryn justice until I told enough of her story so people understand her. I have written a poem about the fires and her house is mentioned in it, in my blogs. When I married Colin she was a bridesmaid and caught the bouquet. I often wondered if I had said I would teach her in 3 years would she have learned in 3. I also massaged her shoulder arm and leg to get them flexible enough to move.

Cant remember why I wrote this here now but for some reason it felt important.
I hope you have a good masseuse Mikey Dee

Hi Mikey_Dee, When we as cultivators of groups find things that are posted without the person being talked about without their permission we are supposed to question that as it then acts as gossip or some lie. I edit posts just like we do on films here in Hollywood.  No one has the right to post something about another without their permission.

I have had things posted using my name in Gaia Networking and a bunch of comments followed and for days I felt like shit even though I took my name off of it, I knew it was me that the guy was targeting with his pain, all because he had been blocked.  So before I found the post, several people had already written me about it to where I really just wanted to delete the entire thread.  It's not ok.  So on this incident being that I am cultivator, I edited it.  I publicly apologize to you personally for me just having found out about this today.  Thanks for showing the truth… we are all living.  Let's celebrate that.

Love & respect to you,
Kathy

Poop, the photo didnt work. Ill see if I can make a link to my photos page.

I developed a program which included karate and swimming for kids and young adults with a range of physical challenges and also things like ADHD and Autism. Then some friends helped me and the parents of course did heaps. We made it a non-profit charitable organisation called 'KALA no limits'. We wanted to provide sport that gave the benefits the kids needed instead of them having to do “therapy”, at a cost that made it accessible to anybody and thats what we came up with–swimming and karate. I did it for 12 years then got a bit burned out and had to get a job that earned money so I could afford to put my boys through uni. I miss it though. We had so much fun and Colin helped me and I eventually married him and everybody from KALA came to the wedding. Three of the girls were bridesmaids. There are so many stories to tell. These children inspired me to be the best I can be. Like that guy at the top of this page and like Mike Dineen they are inspirational to be the best you can be then go beyond that. They inspired me to do my social work degree in my 40's with 5 children of my own and now I'm doing a Masters because of their inspiration still. When you look at someone like that all your excuses for not achieving seem petty sad hollow and pathetic. I taught people to swim who had difficulty getting out of bed without assistance. It was all them. All I had to do was turn up and lend a hand and have a whole lot of fun.
You know why I started doing it? Because every second weekend my boys went to their fathers and I missed them and life was miserable and I was broke and I  didnt want to stay home crying all weekend so I decided to work with children who would be there who needed what I had to offer. They did more for me than I ever did for them.
End of soapbox rant. And seriously you aint seen nothin” till you see a kid whose legs and arms dont work the way they were intended spend a year working his way up to a hundred pushups. And sorry I dont normally tell people all this stuff but its just pouring out and I want to write a book eventually to show what truly incredible people are capable off. Its all your fault Mikey becasue I know you are “LIVING” and I know you also are truly incredible because you could just lie around feeling like crap and instead you get on Gaia and bring fun and joy to our lives. So thanks mate.

Mikey Dee… I am in complete awe how you have taken an emotionally upsetting situation, and turned it into a dialogue of love and light.  I hope the author of your 'premature obit' can see and feel your courage, and reach out to you with the same love.

Thank you Dave, unfortunately the “author” told me when I asked for explination “no time for that shit, cut the crap, and dont piss me off” Pure poetry, however the cultivator of the pod is taking it into her capable hands and A solution, rather than retribution seems likely

my.. I guess compassion for the topic of death is only the 'author's' terms.

Methinks the author may have a more difficult time facing their own end, if their legacy includes such behavior.

To me…

Death is a very personal thing,
For some it can be a joyful passing into the eternal
For others it can be painful, finite, and frightening
And for others still, it can be full of uncertainty… and mixed emotions of fear and love.

What we as individuals believe about death is only important for our own death.

Towards others, our only responsibility is to honor the feelings of others who are facing death as a reality of their own lives… as different as their feelings about death and living may be.

Thank you for reaching through this traumatic incident and accepting his public apology.  None have a hunger for upsetting things on Gaia. When one of our friends are attacked it feels more like we all are, so I am grateful when we can have a peace treaty or something that doesn't leave either party at effect.

One lesson gained is if someone is writing about another on a touchy subject and uses their name, it must be done with permission up front.
Ridicule is the very lightest method of just slapping you to pieces. I am happy we are all sensitive to other's feelings and back on track. We are all basically good here with high ethics, a sense of efficiency and happiness; but occasionally pain and social aberrations can get in the way.  When the step of just talking it out with reason works and it doesn't have to be brought to justice by the group, we are on the right path of sharing wonderful things to come in this community we all hold dear.  Thank you for letting me work with both of you on this.
Peace ~ Kathy

that was very amazing mikey_dee.
My son was recently diagnosed with a cancer in the muscle of his arm. He lives in fear that if it comes back he will have to have his arm amputated. I don't know how to help him with this fear. I am torn as to whether or not I should send this to him. I was going to but then it might be to close for comfort.
I am happy to hear you are still with us. How strange for that to happen.
