*Note in Brithsh & Irish pronuncialion "Z" is pronounced (zed) to rhyme with said/Red/fled/head etc.

The letters of the alphabet,
were at a Summer ball,
Which spelt a time of Joy & Fun,
for almost one and all.

The letter A just seemed to B,
so pretty and so slim,
He went to C if she would dance,
a fandango with him.

The letter D sat next to E
and offered her a twirl,
F she'd agree to danse with him,
She'd soon become "his girl".

"Well G", said she, "your H to me,
seems greater than my own,
but I would love to danse with you,
and not sit here alone"

And next was J , who said "oK!
L take my chance with M"

and bravely asked if he would like

to go out for a spin.

" you asked N such a way I think
that I cannot decline,
and now that we're together
perhaps one day you'll be mine"

"O! mind your Ps and Qs ", she said,
R I will get upset
and S soon as she said this,
the band began another set.
"Then come to T", said he to she,
"so you will know me better,
and come to know that I'm, in fact
a fine upstanding letter"

And all this time,
across the room, V's face was turning blue,
and she could not refrain from saying
these words to W :

"the youngsters of today, it's sad
they only think of sex,
'twill all come to a bad, bad end",
but up spoke wise old X.

" Y critisise the fun they have?
they'll long enough be dead",
and the eldest of them all agreed,
by sleepily nodding his Z.
